Sailing is our platform. Progression is our purpose.
To develop confident, resilient and capable young people using sailing as a platform for personal growth.
At Prodigy, we believe sailing is one of the world's greatest classrooms. Every time a young person steps into a boat, they take on real responsibility — communicating, making decisions, solving problems and responding to an environment that is constantly changing.
Rather than viewing sailing as the end goal, Prodigy intentionally uses these experiences to develop the mindset, skillset and confidence that enable young people to navigate challenges throughout life.
How we respond to challenges
Before participants develop new skills, they develop the mindset needed to embrace challenge, learn from setbacks and continue progressing. The Prodigy Mindset is built around The Three Ps.
Remaining calm under pressure and responding thoughtfully when things do not go according to plan.
Continuing to learn, improve and overcome setbacks through determination and effort.
Thinking independently, exploring solutions and overcoming obstacles through experience.
Together, these three mindsets shape how participants approach challenges both on and off the water.

What we develop through sailing
As participants consistently practise the Prodigy Mindset, they develop five essential competencies that extend far beyond sailing.
Communicating clearly, listening actively and interacting respectfully with others.
Taking ownership of personal actions, equipment, safety and commitments.
Making informed decisions through observation, experience and an understanding of risk.
Learning from experience through thoughtful evaluation and continuous improvement.
Understanding personal strengths, emotions and behaviours while recognising opportunities for growth.
Together, these competencies represent the practical capabilities participants develop throughout every Prodigy programme.
Who our participants become
When young people consistently develop the Prodigy Mindset and demonstrate the Prodigy Skillset, meaningful progression follows. Participants leave Prodigy with far more than sailing ability.
Progression is measured not only by what participants can do, but by who they become.
Participation alone does not demonstrate impact. At Prodigy, participation is where the journey begins. Progression is how we measure success.
Coaches observe behaviours that demonstrate growth in the Prodigy Mindset and Skillset throughout every programme.
Participants reflect on challenges, achievements and personal growth, helping them recognise their own progression and identify future goals.
Parents provide valuable insight into changes in confidence, responsibility, communication and other behaviours demonstrated beyond the programme environment.
Participants demonstrate increasing technical competence, seamanship, safety awareness and confidence on the water.
Together, these measures provide a holistic understanding of each participant's development and enable Prodigy to demonstrate meaningful, measurable impact.
