Why It Matters

Many young people never have the opportunity to experience the responsibility, independence and challenge that sailing naturally provides.

Our Philosophy

At Prodigy, we believe sailing is one of the world's greatest classrooms. Every action has a consequence, creating meaningful opportunities for learning and personal growth.

By removing barriers to participation and intentionally structuring every programme around the Prodigy Progression Framework, we ensure that every sailing experience becomes an opportunity for personal growth.

Our goal is not simply to develop better sailors. Our goal is to develop confident, resilient and capable young people who are equipped to navigate challenges, seize opportunities and contribute positively to their communities.

Measuring Progression

Participation alone does not demonstrate impact. At Prodigy, participation is where the journey begins. Progression is how we measure success.

Coach Observation

Coaches observe behaviours that demonstrate growth in the Prodigy Mindset and Skillset throughout every programme.

Participant Reflection

Participants reflect on challenges, achievements and personal growth, helping them recognise their own progression and identify future goals.

Parent Feedback

Parents provide valuable insight into changes in confidence, responsibility, communication and other behaviours demonstrated beyond the programme environment.

Sailing Development

Participants demonstrate increasing technical competence, seamanship, safety awareness and confidence on the water.

The Prodigy Model

Three interconnected elements that transform every sailing experience into meaningful personal development.

The Prodigy Mindset

How we respond to challenges

Patience

Remaining calm under pressure and responding thoughtfully when things do not go according to plan.

Perseverance

Continuing to learn, improve and overcome setbacks through determination and effort.

Problem Solving

Thinking independently, exploring solutions and overcoming obstacles through experience.

The Prodigy Skillset

What we develop through sailing

Communication

Communicating clearly, listening actively and interacting respectfully with others.

Responsibility

Taking ownership of personal actions, equipment, safety and commitments.

Judgment

Making informed decisions through observation, experience and an understanding of risk.

Reflection

Learning from experience through thoughtful evaluation and continuous improvement.

Self-Awareness

Understanding personal strengths, emotions and behaviours while recognising opportunities for growth.

The Prodigy Outcome

Who our participants become

Participants leave Prodigy with far more than sailing ability. Progression is measured not only by what they can do, but by who they become.
